Walk Once a Week

What is "WOW"?

WoW stands for Walk Once a Week and currently involves 2 million children nationally. WOW encourages parents and pupils to walk to school at least once a week throughout the school year. When children walk, cycle or scoot to school they tick a wall chart in the classroom. If they walk to school at least four times a month they receive a themed badge. This school year the badges depict different sports. They are highly collectable and designed by the children themselves in a national competition.

As WoW runs year round its biggest benefit is making walking the norm for families. Schools that currently take part have a higher average incidence of walking, at 10% above the UK average.

In Staffordshire we will encourage schools to use the scheme to promote all types of sustainable travel, including park and stride and cycling, to ensure as many pupils as possible are rewarded for their efforts.
