Occasionally, opportunities may arise for the SSRP to support externally funded projects that are either outside of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent or in addition to our priority activities. Involvement will be considered appropriate where the project provides wider road safety benefits and gives an opportunity to bring additional work, and therefore employment and other benefits, into the Partnership area.
An example of this is our work with Highways England in managing safety on the strategic road network. This can include enforcing speed limits through roadworks, supporting the management of the motorway network through variable speed limit enforcement or assisting to develop new safety initiatives such as addressing hard shoulder misuse.
Another key project that the Partnership has been involved in is the enforcement of cameras at railway level crossings across England and Wales on behalf of Network Rail. These cameras have been implemented to reduce the risk at road/rail crossings to avoid the potential for injury and disruption. By integrating this work into our existing processes we’ve been able to deliver a cost-effective service.
